The MWCC is pleased to invite you to a reception and special presentation of In the Shadow of Lushan.  A play about a company struggling to survive in a global economyIn the Shadow of Lushan debuted this summer at the 29th annual Baltimore Playwrights Festival.

In the Shadow of Lushan is no longer in its stage run, but the Fells Point Corner Theater is reviving the play for a one-night reading especially for the MWCC.  The play’s original actors will take the stage to recite their lines, accompanied by dramatic lighting and sound.  Please join the MWCC for a wine and cheese reception and this dramatic reading, followed by dessert and a Q&A with the playwright and cast, led by the MWCC Director.

In the Shadow of Lushan recounts the struggle of Josephine Bannaker–JoJo–the owner of Bannaker's Metal Fabricating, a business that makes tools and other products for the home hobbyist.  JoJo is struggling to survive as foreign competition eats away at profits and jobs.  As the play begins, Bannaker's largest customer announces that all of Bannaker's work is going up for auction.  A business in China is poised to win the work, threatening JoJo's and her employees'  jobs, future and dreams.  In the Shadow of Lushan deals with the issues facing all American business owners and employees, especially those in manufacturing.

In the Shadow of Lushan was written by local playwright Kathleen Barber.  Ms. Barber is also vice president of corporate operations for the Fairlawn Tool & Die Co., a metal fabrication business with nearly 60 employees.  Barber drew on her experience to write In the Shadow of Lushan to highlight how manufacturers nationwide have been affected by sweeping change.

The Fells Point Corner Theater is located 251 South Ann Street in Baltimore.

A group rate is available!  But 10 tickets for the price of 8 - a 20% discount!  This is a great opportunity to bring your team for an evening of fun team-building!
