This workshop is designed for lean leaders who struggle to deal with people at work who are not on board with change, in denial, "addicted to the status quo", and are actively or passively resisting change.  The workshop provides tools and practice opportunities to build the skills needed to facilitate change.

At some point, every lean journey requires a change leader to deal with associates who just don't get it or are squarely not on board with change.  In recent years, lean coaches at Capital One have developed powerful techniques, adapted from the methods of clinical psychology, to help leaders and associates overcome their addiction to the status quo.

Traditional change management techniques focus strongly on behavioral compliance, and they create a compliance culture that ultimately fails to engage the hearts and minds of associates.  Motivational Interviewing provides coaches with a new technique that focuses on associates' personal choice to create behaviors that are consistent with a transformational culture and lean principles.

How does a therapist coach a patient who does not want to be coached, and does not want to break their cycle of addiction?  The answer is in the proven techniques of Motivational Interviewing.  Capital One has discovered how to adapt these approaches to breaking change resistance and the addiction people often have to the status quo.

For more information on Motivational Interviewing as a means of addressing resistance to change, see the Summer 2015 Target Magazine article here

This workshop is not theory; it is a full day skill-building workout. Participants will cycle through learn-and-do practice all day long.  Participants can elect to be videotaped during some of their role-practice scenarios so they can continue their learning at home. Participants will be given access to an app that will continue their learning and assist them in conversations with leaders and associates who exhibit the symptoms of "Addiction to the Status Quo".
